There's a weird omission in that piece: the Liberals and Conservatives have been smearing and misrepresenting each other for decades. From the PC ads (which barely aired) making fun of Chretien's facial paralysis, to the Liberal "they're gonna put soldiers on our streets!" (which were only available online) they've been doing as long as I can remember.
The LPC planting Trump style buttons at a CPC event probably happened after this piece was submitted, but it deserves a mention as well.
