I have had about 4 retail based jobs growing up before being able to get into something else. I was in-between jobs and in tech school when my father talked my uncle into letting me work for him. It was HVAC and the place we visited was sort of like a YMCA. Idk if it was just because I was thrown into it, but it was super scary and had a lot of work I did not care for. For example we had to go on top of the rafters above the pool and walk across the narrow vents while holding a pipe to get to one end to change stuff out. I was petrified being up there. Another part which I didn't think would be that bad was just climbing the ladder on the side of the building to get to the roof to check the units on top. I quickly realized that day I am not a fan of heights. I only went back a few times before saying nah I can't. I got another retail job until I finished school within the year and getting the job I still do today which is IT admin stuff.
