They do exist, but explaining why they believe what they believe is like trying to rationalize the irrational.
Their beliefs might be irrational, but there often is some form of reasoning behind it, and it is valuable to try to understand and explain it, because that makes it easier to help others avoid falling into that kind of thinking.
