Primitive connectors like USB-A and Micro USB are not offtopic, but may elicit a smug sense of superiority.

A really interesting video about the possible culprits of out-of-spec cables.

What a clown show, cables shouldn't be this complicated. This makes old school barrel jacks even more likeable.

I mean it's not that complicated of a problem, I've had micro USB cables do the same thing to me back in the day. It seems like the specifications are pretty clear ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Yeah the cable has problems, but it's what we've settled on, and personally I'm thrilled to only have one wire to charge everything. I won't buy things that don't use USB C. And if I do? I'll convert them.

Barrel jacks have a lot going for them, but they are far from perfect themselves. What size is it? The OD is right but the ID is wrong. Polarity?

At least with USB C if I buy a good quality set of cables and a beefy charger, I can charge almost anything.

The data specifications are a whole other beast, but we're talking power.
