Is rumored that the Target self check cameras show you the most unflattering image of yourself so that you will want to avoid stealing and getting that photo on the news.
And that people are less likely to steal when they can actually see themselves on camera, vs just seeing the camera itself.

They do, but the cameras aren't streamed anywhere. Source, used to work in assets protection. They are strictly a deterrent

If you're American, yes. As far as I've seen, every grocery store self checkout station has some sort of camera.
Ah, here in Germany they don't as far as i've seen. There's already cameras at the ceiling overlooking the whole store
