And if you pay for Premium you get all features and zero ads. Many of the competitors have paid options that still include ads.

Whether or not Premium is worth it is another debate entirely, but the fact of the matter is that it is simply a better deal compared to other streaming services.

I like that I get music too. I honestly don't mind my Premium subscription, I get decent value out of it for the amount of content I view. I just wish creators saw more of that money.

Am i wrong to think a premium view is worth a thousand non premium in revenue?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

I think YouTube has said that Premium, formally Red, viewers do count more for ad revenue and other things like that for creators than free viewers. A streamer I follow I think said they were worth 5x for him

I need all these premium users to listen to my music lol

Seemingly every video still includes sponsor segments. I use ublock origin with sponsorblock and actually see zero ads.

And a portion of your money goes to the creators you watch, and you get YouTube music included. I always say if you're gonna pay for one service, the one that makes the most sense is YouTube.

not neccesarily, not as much as you think, otherwise they wont be relying on brand deal, promotions and patreon. most of thier income comes from them.

There's a lot to shit on yt for. But they do actually pay people real money for their work. It's still surprising to me after all these years.

While I love the content on Youtube, I'd like to pay for no ads and I'd like to support the creators, I just can't bring myself to pay for a service where the UX is so catastrophically bad.

Search is basically non functional at this point. Video quality has to be adjusted manually for each video to not get pixelated mess. Even at 1080p the quality is barely better than DVD. The app caches so little ahead that the slightest network interruption pauses playback. Forced auto rotation makes you grab the device each time you return from full screen to the video list. Subtitles have completely gone to shit and it's wild that in the age of forcing AI on everyone, that auto generated subtitles are still as bad as they are.

To name just a few...

Sorry for the rant

Correctly configure ad blockers will also get you an ad free experience and without that pesky monthly payment.

[–] TheFeatureCreature 7 points 2 days ago

You're not wrong, but that is not the point I was making.

Adblocking YouTube is 100% the best option. I agree there. But if someone does want to pay for membership then YouTube is, by far, the best deal. Their competitors are absolutely horrendous.

Oh hey, me too, except I would never pay for premium. I just don't use the official front-end.

you can use adblock, instead of paying. ALso the ADs are so intrusive you have no choice to use ublock origin.
