“BD” refers to Franco-Belgian comics, but let's open things up to include ALL Euro comics and GN's. Euro-style artistry from around the world is also welcome. ^^

* BD = "Bandes dessinées"
* BDT = Bedetheque
* GN = graphic novel
* LBK = Lambiek
* LC = "Ligne claire"

So, not to 'beat myself hoarse,'* but ah man... there's just nothing like René Goscinny, i.e. the classic writer upon this series. <3

* hahaha (a little Belle & Hockridge tribute right there)

And yet, and yet... let's give the new crew a chance, i.e. the new writers & artists assigned to carry on the series.

It certainly can't be easy.

Pardon the late reply, but yeah, I'm with you.

To be brutally honest, I feel like it was a mistake to continue the series much beyond Goscinny's death. As we've seen with other series (Lucky Luke, Thorgal, Largo Winch, Spirou, etc, etc), sometimes it works out perfectly fine, but at other times...?

With your brutal honesty, parts of me agree, parts dont.

I first must say that i am luckily free of the bias because i am in my early 20s right now and dont have nostalgia to my childhood where i read some issues.

I disagree because i think if the story would have ended with the last issue then it would have left us with horrible after taste.

The new art is stunning and so detailed! I absolutely love every picture. In the papyrus of cesar, the light effects were amazing how they did it. Though there is also a real charm in the simplistic style of Uderzo.

The first new comic under Condra and Ferri, Asterix and the picts captured the fundamental feeling of asterix perfectly. It felt like it could have been writen by Goscinny. Like wise for Papyrus. Though there i feel like a shit is already slightly noticeable. I imedietly thought about the Avernershield. Asterix in Italy though felt very close to tour de france...and the story...it felt like it wasnt really there.

Daughter of Vercingetorix, brutally honest, it felt so much like old people jokes where every punshline is "haha young people do that. That is exactly how they are".

The Griffin overdid it with the pun names, and just like the movie and its book asterix in china it made no sense for cesar to persue this expedition. We have seen Cesar is cunning and willing to go to extreme lenghts with unorthodox to finally subdue the gauls. But there was always something why he wanted to get rid of them finally, be it the senate being roudy, people questioning his legitimacy, or because he needed to archive a military goal somewhere else and then asterix, obelix, idefix and the others just happened to come across it.

The gauls were never throwing the first stone, sure they want to emberesse the romans at every chance they get but neither cesar nore the gauls would go half across europe, to ukraine, just to get to something. Cesar only had a vase and storys to off on about this "monster in the east". He didnt persue operations for less, for example trying to subdue the gauls threw decadency. That operation he turned down because it was way too costly to buy all these meneers. But atleast at the start he had good examples of why and how it could have had worked.

So why would he send out an entire legion just to find and subdue a monster he has nothing to go off on, and if he captured this monster, then what?

This story had so many holes and the gauls werent even needed at all.

The white iris had the feeling of an old asterix comic but again so similar to a story we had before, the roman agent. Difference now its not about spreading hate but pacefism. Clearly taken Inspiration from trends on social media. But once again in a way to somewhat mock it.

My question is, who decides on these storys? Is it really what Ferri wants to write about? Or is he given instructions "write a story with this topic".

The movie and book about china have even way bigger problems, from logic, to destroying characters.

Writing this i am starting to see a trend. They are writing a lot of storys who's subplot or main plot is always with something what is currently trending on social media
