How soundproof are semi detached townhouse strata complexes?
I'm kind wanting to buy something to live in, in the west / north, with a hard limit of $550K. However my priority is getting something where there can be jam sessions.
Unless windows are double glazed (which in most cases they're not), soundproofing will be fuck all.
Walls will be brick, studs and plaster. Not much in the way of soundproofing either.
Good way to check is how much road noise you can hear when inside.
Would covering up a window with a tick piece of plywood work? I've seen that done in a few musician sharehouses.
Oh definitely. Not perfect but any additional insulation and padding will help. Egg cartons on walls work really well actually. I would imagine windows as well.
get an older place if you can, they are more solid
but also do what you can to soundproof your equipment
Yeah, soundproofing is expensive, and I want to be completely settled down in a place before I set it up.
