Aren't pockets just sewn in belt pouches?
I'll take a pic of a traditional New Guinean belt pouch I have ( I collect all types of Oceania stuff ) . Guys would attach these to their belts and the belts were pretty much just strings to attach useful objects to.
Today I am playing some vintage vinyl singles of movie and tv themes.
