New account but I've been using burner accounts and lurking since the sub got banned. I've been seeing all the standard liberal brainworms again for the first time since reddit-logo and everytime it's an account from another federation. I was tepidly against federation at first but this has been entertaining, like the old days of pigpoop people who wandered into the sub.

I gotta imagine this will only last another week before everyone defederates us, but let's enjoy it for now.

I hate it here now, ngl. I've barely used the site since the federation. Maybe I'll get used to it or maybe it's time to move on.

Seconding the "local" recommendation! I was really confused by your comment until I realized I was on local the whole time for some reason lol. It's almost nobody from other instances, like 1-2 comments per big thread. I'm actually gonna go check out All now for some fun hahah

Yeah mods need to pin a PSA:

if you don't like federation, set your default filter to "local", it basically makes it like it never happened

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I wish we could make "local only" posts

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago

Yes, local only comms have been in the issue tracker for a couple years now. It'll come eventually

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Completely ignoring that they still come and shit up our threads, but sure, "say it louder for the people in the back"

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago

Its literally like the old subreddit. One person posts a dorky liberal take and like 25 replies tell them to fuck off. To me, it's a positive. It's not like there's any chance of a liberal hegemony on the site.

wdym? it's like 1-2 in a large thread and they just get dunked on, creating hundreds of posts. don't click on the threads with tons of posts.

Can I ask why? They've only been in like a handful of threads and those are only the ones on frontpage of /all/ under "active" sort. Like, 3 or 4 bans per day seems like practically nothing? In the last week there have been 17 bans and 6 of those are ban evaders unrelated to federation. 11 bans in 7 days seems really low impact.

I'd be pretty sad to see you disappear I like you.

Yeah I've only seen like 5 or 6 comments from non hexbears in the last few days!

EDIT: ohhhhhhh my thing defaulted to Local NO WONDER

[–] [email protected] 46 points 2 years ago

Click on the "local" button on the top and you filter everything other than us out

[–] [email protected] 45 points 2 years ago (2 children)

your default site filter should be Local > Hot (or new)

that way, when you want to see or participate in dunking, you switch to All > Active but you otherwise don't cop all the pleb outside memes

click your username > settings and review

Hot hexbears in my locality!?!?!?

I blocked the memes comm on lemmy.ml and that did wonders for my experience; blocking certain comms can make a huge difference if you don't want to go as far as switching to Local but can't stand shit like garbage-tier Reddit memes.

Move on to where? The offline world? I’m not super online so I am completely unaware of any leftist forums that are remotely similar to prefederation hexbear. I will say there are limits to the entertainment value of having dumbasses wander into our threads, and sometimes the broken sorting mechanism is a bummer, so I get where you’re coming from. Honestly not sure where one would move on to though.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 years ago

avoid the threads with lots of posts? if you sort by local+hot you basically won't see them. yeah, there's the occasional lib who wanders in but it's not like we've been free for that over the last three years.
