I've stopped recommending Lemmy to friends because of those two instances
You can always recommend they join, but block those two instances. Every place on the internet has trolls to ignore.
You can't block instances, or at least if you can, I haven't figured out how to.
Kbin, Sync, Thunder, etc. all have various levels of blocking (e.g. keywords, user, community, instance, etc.)
You can on kbin and I thought some of the lemmy apps were adding that feature.
Seriously, they sometimes make me regret making an account here. It's tiring.

Feels like half my experience on Lemmy is blocking "communities" from those instances. Hexbear, Lemmygrad, explodingheads... constant propaganda, low quality political and even fully racist memes with tons of upvotes polluting my feed. It's not enjoyable and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it even for me, let alone my less tech savvy friends.
I get federation, decentralized social media, etc. I love the idea. Would be amazing to socialize without a corporation looking over my shoulder. But seriously those instances and their propaganda have pretty much killed my excitement about it.
... you only have to set up those preferences once, friend. Your argument is like saying you don't want to eat anymore because picking up food with your hand is tiresome. π
I can set my preferences once or a million times and Lemmy will still be ruined by propaganda
Try making a post in your instance asking your admins to defederate from those places, if they refuse for some reason, pack your bags to a different instance that will. That's the beauty of federation ^^
Or how this unchecked aggression from Ukraine (which was really just the US and UK in a Scooby-Doo villain mask all along!) will leave poor, defenseless, peaceful Russia no choice but to trigger a worldwide nuclear holocaust.

We definitely need to defederate some instances. They try to downvote every comment and post of mine with bot accounts. Coincidentally, during Russian daytime. π€
