Based on the information so far it seems that Iran does have the capability to reach the UK with their ballistic missiles but there's no clear indication that they're intending to do so. However, if they did the UK wouldn't have a great way of protecting itself from those strikes.
Netanyahu claims Iran has these missiles, but Iran disputes it. There's also no publicly verifiable evidence that this is true. UK intelligence also does not think Iran has such capabilities.
Besides, Iran has been only weeks away from nukes for 30 years, I'm sure they're only a couple miles off of hitting the UK as well /s.
Even then, I doubt Iran wants to trigger a UK military response to any missiles sent to the mainland.
I don't think either Netanyahu or the Iranian government are reliable sources of information, so what they say doesn't really tip the scales for me one way or the other. That said, the UK mainland is only about 600 km farther from Iran than Diego Garcia is - so if it really was them targeting that base, they probably figured it was within range.
