I'm looking to play casually (in person) with some friends and we were wondering what the cheapest format to start buying for would be? And what might be some good pick ups (we have the starter decks but want some more variety) thanks

For casual magic my favorite has been draft and cEDH. You can get some pre-cons for cEDH commander relatively cheap. For 100 cards, if your building it yourself its difficult to build less than $30 USD or so. But possible. I have a slew of decks around ~$40 USD, and Commanders Quarters on YouTube has many examples.

I have a ton of fun playing 2-4 people commander games with buddies, and we all play around pre-con or a modified pre-con power level and have a good time. Sometimes I venture out to card shops and play games with my decks, and I'm usually not completely trounced, so that's a plus.
