Apple's toolkit is based on Wine, and there must be a contract between Apple and CodeWeavers(See their blog ). With funds flowing into CodeWeavers, I'm optimistic that it would result into improvement of Wine's codebase (look at Proton!).

However, I don't like the way how Apple advertise it. They're (intentionally?) giving people the false impression that the Game Porting Toolkit is solely developed by Apple, ignoring the long time efforts from Wine developers and user community. As a Wine user since 2011, I'm quite unhappy when hearing other mac users yell "Oh! Amazing" at this toolkit.
