I dunno about you guys but just desert when you cross back into friendly territory.

Not as easy as it sounds from what we've seen. You'll be killed by the artillery you're running away from if you make it very obvious you're trying to desert. If you make it look very convincing you're going to fight, you'll be taken out by artillery from the Ukrainian side. Artillery works for miles.
