Why do we need content warnings on lemmy on mundane stuff like this?
For those people who its not mundane for.
Because there are, genuinely, people in this world, in this moment, who are considering suicide so sincerely that seeing an image like this at the exact wrong moment will decide that it's what they should do.
Oh yea, I'm sure this image is really the thing that would give that final push to a person teetering on the edge. /s
No one could be triggered by this. And if they are, they should probably stay off the Internet entirely and never interact with anyone because fucking anything could trigger them. The onus is not on the general public to cover or censor even the mere mention of suicide.
That's a really bizarre way to spell "I know literally nothing about psychology" but you do you.
I was going to make this exact same comment but I was going to put "I've never known the despair that leads a person to attempt suicide."
I'm glad we seem to be on the same page.
It's just a courtesy. As someone who's gone through several suicide attempts myself, I understand that there are things which can be unnerving and people wish to avoid. While suicide references are, ironically, not actually one of those things for me, as I'm quite comfortable with it, I do absolutely understand the concept and that suicide references are one of the more common kinds of content people wish to avoid.
people like me who can be bothered by it
you not being upset by it doesnt necessarily mean there arent people who are upset by references to suicide or portrayals of sharp objects in this context
its not quite necessary or expected on lemmy as far as i can see but its definitely appreciated when i have to see one less triggering post, cause the stress does add up
though i will point out that its pretty useless when the image isnt spoilered or hidden within the body cause who reads the title first and THEN decides if they want to see the post
It should be spoilered on here, marked as NSFW
oopsie daisies thats a config issue on my part ty
If you get bothered by an image like that you should just not enter a public discussion board or the internet period. I genuinely mean it if something like that ruins your day.
its not day ruining, but as i said in my original comment the stress definitely adds up
If the random chance it stresses you out and leads towards a potential day ruined I think you are not mentally ok to be on the internet, let alone discussion boards, and I say this with due respect. This is not a safe space.
You seem upset about the trigger warning. Maybe you're the one who should not be on the internet.
Good response. Very funny. Well said.
Half a year ago someone posted this image on Lemmy. I jokingly commented "Let's commit self-deletions" (verbatim)
Well, comment removed with the reason "Encouraging suicide". Yeah, that's how far up their asses some mods have a stick. And probably some shit-ass users who may have reported the comment.
And I can assure you I fist-hand relate to what I joked about.
