I don't think they want much of anything from the fediverse. They just want to connect to it long enough to break it somehow, and/or overshadow it. Sort of like how google killed XMPP by 'supporting' it at first, then dragging their feet on keeping in sync with any improvements to it so all their users assumed other XMPP clients were broken (when it was entirely Google's refusal to at compatible once they had the lions' share of users).
