I don't see the appeal for "normal users", but it might make for a cool LoRaWan messenger if they make a backplate for that (similar to the PinePhone).
Long Range WAN ? I was thinking that people who are willing to get a SIP account could have a phone to make phone calls at home via their WiFi, while having an open source phone which is maybe more private than the average smart phone ?
If the buttons were larger, I can see this as a good phone for elderly.
I live in middle Asia and I still see elderly people using old school phones. Nokia isn't as dead as you might think ;)
Im not sure what the best use of a dedicated VoIP/SIP cell phone would be, but the concept and having been made from scratch is pretty cool.
OMG!!! I searched the internet high and low some years ago for something just like this.
All I ever found was some phone from South Korea, I believe, and was shown at CES one year and then never widely released to my knowledge.
Then I stumbled upon Trixbox and other projects to achieve something similar.
This looks great though. Exactly what I was originally wanting to find. Thanks a bunch for posting!
Wiphone will be amazing for our generation
from the FAQ: "Do I need a SIM card? No. You might be able to get one into the microSD slot if you really push" lol
