MODERATORS

I was watching college baseball the other day, and they had the their pitcher also serving as the DH? I was sad when the NL got the DH, but this seems like a strange way to do it. Is that common in college ball, or was this just one weird school?

I'm no college baseball expert but I don't think it's common. I wonder if we're seeing a Shohei Ohtani effect

Carlos Rodon frequently DH'ed for NC State. He was called upon to pinch hit in pressure situations, too. I had hoped he'd get drafted to an NL team just to see how he'd do against big league pitching.

That's my one local example. Not sure if that indicates a common occurrence.

Interesting. Using a pitcher as a pinch hitter is pretty baller. Kinda like using the goalie to take a penalty kick in soccer.

Fuck the DH

With that said, I believe MLB implemented a rule for Ohtani in this situation. If the pitcher is the DH and they come out of the game for pitching, they will be allowed to bat in the DH's spot for the remainder of the game.

cool! If I recall correctly the announcers referred to it as the Ohtani rule.
