What is libre culture?

Libre culture is all about empowering people. While the general philosophy stems greatly from the free software movement, libre culture is much broader and encompasses other aspects of culture such as music, movies, food, technology, etc.

Some beliefs include but aren't limited to:

That copyright should expire after a certain period of time.
That knowledge should be available to people, not locked away.
That no entity should have unjust control or possession of others.
That mass surveillance is about mass control, not justice.
That we can all band together to help liberate each other.

I've looked into the ways other forums handle rules, and I've distilled their policies down into two simple ideas.

Please show common courtesy: Let's make this community one that people want to be a part of.
Please keep posts generally on topic
No NSFW content
When sharing a Libre project, please include the name of its license in the title. For example: “Project name and summary (GPL-3.0)”

Libre culture is a very very broad topic, and while it's perfectly okay for a conversation to stray, I do ask that we keep things generally on topic.

Would you consider rebranding as delightful android? The awesome project is a github-only thing, and has many not-so-awesome lists, like awesome-[Big-Tech] lists. Also the root list shows ads from the project sponsors.

Delightful Gems of Freedom

The delightful project on the other hand is only for FOSS, Open Data and Open Science related curated lists, and these lists can be hosted anywhere. The project is still young, and needs time to grow further, but that'll go gradually. Anyone can maintain and curate lists on subjects of their interest.

i got excited when i saw the purple gem. my first thought was some angel dev had made a FOSS version of Obsidian, one of my favorite markdown editors. I also use MarkText, ghostwriter, Atom, and Mousepad, too, though - each has its place.

I agree about avoiding github - if that was your point. Github is free and easy enough now, but Microsoft (who owns it now) could turn into a Twitter or Facebook censor-freak any day they choose. Its only a matter of time. Too many techies have placed all of their eggs in that basket. Not wise.

Avoiding github is part of it, but one can still create their own delightful sub-list there. It is more the recognition that curated lists can be hosted anywhere on any public or self-hosted code forge.

Github is turning in a direction where ever more lock-in creeps in, and FOMO is created, and this goes far beyond git + webUI to slowly span the entire software development process. If you are interested in projects that try to break this trend I recommend looking at FedeProxy and their initiative to federate Gitea.
