From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Open book exams are coming up, and it would be very helpful if I could take the lecture recordings and make their contents searchable by keywords. Is there an application that can take an input audio file and generate text transcripts? Ideally one that doesn't rely on the cloud.

As a deaf dude, none of the open source nor closed source transcription software works well. I personally use Otter.ai which is a paid service for that service although ti isn't perfect by any stretch, but it's still better than Azure Transcription service or any other that I know of.

https://linto.ai/ - I think this one is cloud based though and you'd have to find a service provider.

https://doc.linto.ai/#/client/rpi_quickstart - actually it seems you could set it up yourself on a raspberry pi.
