It's an instance specific bug, affecting other clients as well. I'm not sure how fixable it is, all I know is that it's working fine on lemmy.ca

I don't think it's instance specific as I tried to post to [email protected] and had the issue. Ended up going on Lemmy.ca in the browser and posting on mobile instead. I haven't posted many threads so I'm not sure how well it works on Lemmy Connect. My first thread was here and it worked fine through Connect.
Yeah it's really weird. I'm having the exact same issues using the Thunder app.
