What advantage does Briar have over Matrix for non-activism purposes?

Briar can can still work when your Internet connection is down.

Mesh offline social network??

That's only in the presence of others, though. I'm not attacking Briar in any way, I was just genuinely curious if there was any advantage of using it over Matrix when not around other people like in an activism setting.

O-okay, It includes forums and blogs, not just IM. I consider it a complete offline social network.

Oh forums and blogs?? Ok I see the appeal it has then wow that's cool.

What are the advantages over Signal?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 years ago* (last edited 4 years ago)

Signal is USA based, Signal uses Amazon servers. For Signal you need to expose your phone number. With Signal you need Internet access, but with Briar you can use local blue-tooth and WiFi internal addresses. Then there is the new pin feature of Signal which undermines Signal original privacy and security goals.

In addition to what dandelion said, Briar is P2P, uses Tor by default. Signal is as a good everyday messenger in your communication with family and friends. For people with extreme threat models like activists and investigative journalists, Briar is much better.
