On snoosite users are also communities where the user can exclusively post. I think this is pretty awesome feature and would seemingly make mastodon federation make more sense.

Are there previous discussions I'm missing on the topic?
Is this a good idea or am I the a-hole?
Is this a planned feature?

Here's the issue for user-following..

Its very far down the road though, we want to get community following, and every federated action around it solid, before we start tackling that.

I think that's a good plan. User following is a great feature but not as prominent as those others you mentioned.

Something to note: every user and comm has an RSS feed. If you right-click or long press the little rss symbol on a page you can copy the link and add it to your reader.

I'm against a follow user feature in Lemmy, thats just bloat. But in the future it will be possible to follow Lemmy users from Pleroma and other Activitypub platforms. But dont ask me when, we have a lot more important things to work on (like moderation or language tags).
