Hey folks. My old Monitor Audio RSW-12 subwoofer is, alas, not long for this world. There is huge electrical hum, and seems that the caps are gone/going. Apparently a pretty well known problem.
I wish to remedy this situation, but unsure how to proceed.
- I could get a spare board from MA for GBP 300+. That would be simple.
- I could also get a 3rd party plate amp or stand alone amp, and use the driver and case.
- I could get a new sub, possibly even 15", but no idea what would be good.
- I could build a DIY one, again possibly 15", but I have never built a speaker in my life, though not frightened to try - but I have no idea how to tune it, baffles, what size ports to use, where to place them etc.
My room is 5m wide x 2.8m high, and 8.7m deep, but the viewing/listening position is <4m from the wall (so I consider it open backed if you get my meaning), leaving ~5m behind the viewer.
Any advice, hints, links appreciated. I'm EU based (poland), so please consider that. Ideally like to keep it under 1000 euros, but I'm weak of will and can easily be persuaded for a new shiny thing.
This is for a home cinema set up in 5.1, rest are monitor Audio Silver RX.
