I hate how property owners get shoved tax money up their ass (deductible renovations, decarbonisation subsidies) while renters get fuck all as usual

Just pest problems, no heat, and filthy hallways.

I was in a band called Filthy Hallways. We eventually broke up because we couldn't get booked at any decent venues.

Yikes
Imagine being the landlord when this gets brought up to them. But then again they're probably already in the process of actual legal action.

I figured this was just a joke about tenants financially supporting landlords.

I've been reading way too many sovcit posts, I thought it was one of those lol.

Also probably because OP is the source of most sovcit posts :)

Ha! That sonofa-

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

OP hopes you are enjoying my sovcits.

It's a shame when delusional ideas get in the way of a poignant joke.

That was my first thought too.

To claim a dependant you'd have to be paying taxes in the first place, so I doubt it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dare I ask what "sovcit" means? Some kind of soviet thing?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

sovereign citizen is what it stands for, are you familiar with them?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never heard the term, dare I ask what it means?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sure. It's a loose terminology for a group of anti government protestors. They have very bizarre beliefs about the law, don't have licenses or license plates or insurance, file vexatious lawsuits and commit "paper terrorism" on the courts, have fake license plates on their cars, don't pay taxes and try to pay bills from what they think is a secret government trust established in their names at birth worth 2 million dollars. They are quite notorious for getting pulled over for their fake plates, where they refuse to get out of their car and ask repeatedly 'am I being detained ", and end up with their windows smashed and being dragged out of their cars. There are a million videos of this on YouTube and they're quite something.

Here is an article about a notorious case where the cops actually killed one as they thought he had a weapon. It's quite unfortunate but the cops have been killed by sovcits before..

Wow, that's pretty insane. Are these guys the same as the "libertarians" you guys have who just think there should be no laws and they should be able to do whatever they want?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

A way more extreme version.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 1 year ago

I think they're making a joke that the landlord makes their money off the tenant, satisfying the bit about "does the individual rely on your support for more than 60% of their income" or whatever the language is there about dependents

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

“Yep. That’s my legal guardian. That one, over there. That’s the one who is actually responsible for putting speed bumps in the elevators, reducing the water heater temp to an affordable 68°, & serving asbestos dip at the holiday tenant gathering.

I’m just a lowly dependent, no way I should be held accountable for my misdeeds.”

If you're in Canada, you don't get any tax brakes for having dependent children, unless you're a single parent (only one parent can claim), or you pay for daycare.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

unless you’re a single parent

Counts for some lucky people with no house mates

[–] Undearius 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

There's the Canada Child Benefit which is a monthly tax-free payment for anyone who has a dependant child.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey, some landlords are really living (our) paycheck to (our) paycheck.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Won't someone think of the landlords.
