Three Body Problem

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 hours ago (4 children)

Trying not to spoil it but this is a plot point in a relatively famous, relatively recent sci-fi book, where the characters need to record a warning that lasts for millennia. They end up carving it into the rock of Pluto since all other data mediums would fail over that timespan.

I can't spend the time here that this community really needs, so I am looking for another mod or two to add to the team. We've got one other mod right now who is great but another couple to step in and be active in the community would be great. Let me know why you'd make a great mod below!

Is this.... a reasonable take on LinkedIn? wow

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

hello, mod here! I'm not that active on Lemmy these days so if you want to take over this community and migrate it elsewhere then that would be fine. I keep an eye out for reports etc but I don't really post here anymore.

Given there are already 5k subs here, I would say it makes more sense to add active moderators rather than try and move the community.

I also recall we advertised for more mods recently and didn't get much response, so really what we need is a very active mod willing to build up this community. If moving to another instance is the best way to do that, great.

Is this a microblog post?

To kill a French Vampire you need to drive a baguette through its heart. Sounds easy but the process is painstaking.

Why do you think they do? Logically think it through.

Market sharen and incumbent advantage. Ease of adoption (or appearance of). Ubiquity and lack of need to retain. Predatory behaviour by MS. Different priorities for users.

Unless you actually consider the real reasons why Windows is so widespread you'll never make a dent in it.

What happened with Unity in the end? Did they back down?

Posting this to make up for accidentally posting a dog whistle earlier. Oops

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

I will delete this post and replace it with one about the dog whistle.

What the fuck! I thought it was just a cute post about small talk being mostly about boring patterns like the weather and recent sports results.

You can't expect me to believe there is a race of creatures living in well-ordered homes who spend all day making candy while their evil counterpart hides out in menacing fortresses that augur only destruction

Populism Updates @PopulismUpdates Tell me your most radical position that cannot be placed on the left-right political spectrum

Admiral Snaccbar @Chris Mench Serving shrimp with the tail still on when it's already mixed into something (pasta, rice, etc) is insane.

Hey all, I've not been putting as much time into Lemmy as I thought I would, so I'm requesting applications for new mods! There isn't really anything to do in terms of reactive moderation, there's almost never any reports etc, but a proactive approach to growing the community, encouraging posts, and all that sort of thing would be great.

Let me know below if you are interested!

Just a reminder that reporting posts you don't like (or that you disagree with, or that are disagreeing with you) but that do not break any rules is a waste of my time and yours. Downvote and move on. Repeat offenders will be banned.
