If they're anything like my high school, they have a deal with the photographer. They'd photograph basketball games at a reduced rate and in return the students had to use that studio if they wanted to be in the yearbook

Seems kinda silly to pay so much for school pictures these days. It made more sense before everyone had a digital camera in their pocket, and social media to share pictures on.

Not just silly, exploitative as fuck! The parents are pressured into buying the pictures because all the other parents do and the school and/or the company they hired to take the photos are taking advantage of that social pressure to jack up prices 🤬
