And remember: absolutely no dancing! Because otherwise Baby Jesus will cry.

I'm tempted to go to a church and dance there.

But also don't panic. The days before long holidays the supermarkets are packed with people preparing for the end of the world.

Yes, shops will be open again on Saturday, it’s just one day…

Begs the question, are they gonna be more or less packed than today? Maybe everyone runs to the stores now so the usual Saturday crowd isn't there. Or everyone skips today and goes on Saturday, crowding it even more than usual.

I used to work retail in Berlin. The thursdays before easter always had the highest revenue of all days in the year.

I guess today they will be more busy.

Wait, do they have some kind of legal exception?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes, those markets are at stations, so they can argue they sell 'travel needs'. But they sell the same goods as every market of those brands

They might sell the same food, but they do sell them for way higher prices. They have to because the rent for the shops is high, but also because the people buying there have nowhere else to go, because usually no one goes there that can go shopping elsewhere. So better plan ahead with opening times of your normal grocery store.

Ah that makes sense. Good thing I have a ton of canned food at home to prepare for the apocalypse

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Welp, fuck. Could've said that a day earlier, now it's too late.

I got my reminder this morning when the whole parking lot was crowded and grannies were fighting for the last shopping cart.

Sounds like some good entertainment though.

Do German stores close over the weekend as well? We used to do that in Canada but it's been years since that stopped.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

They are closed on Sunday. On Saturday shops close earlier, especially if you are in a rural area.

Interesting.. here in Denmark shops are also closed on Thursday.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

I know, that's why the entire DK population is in Flensburg right now, stocking up on beer.

And Europeans make fun of us Americans fire Black Friday lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

@Etterra @You Who said that? I live in Germany and I've seen absolutely no one 'making fun of americans' because of black Friday.
Please stop spreading false claims.

There are tons of things to make fun about and mock the United States, but having a day in the year where people go crazy about buying stuff which was overpriced before isn't funny. Especially since companies in Europe doing the same thing and also call it 'black friday'.
