This show feels like a fever dream. I remember being the only person that knew of it at the time in my area. I remember watching it on toonami after school, and I remember it escalating quickly at one point. I'm pretty sure the show doesn't actually end though. It got cancelled or something before the ending so it more or less just stops abruptly.

I'll always remember the Mortal Kombat episode lol

It kind of ends on a cliffhanger with Megabyte literally saying "Now the hunt can truly begin!" and then that's the end of the series, but there are a couple of decent endpoints of the show before that, and if you like you can just imagine the last few episodes as some weird fanfic that Enzo wrote.

Yeah season 3 (I think?) gets wild. I don't remember complete specifics, but it gets pretty crazy for a kid's show in terms of themes and such.

Yeah and I remember there being a very heavy tone shift from fun and light-hearted to dark and serious. Also, the kid is all of a sudden an adult or something too?

I remember the final (third?) season of this show getting fucking deep and kind of dark in terms of the entire show's arc. Blew my little child brain lol...

This takes me back. Every commercial break where the display the Reboot badge, me and my sister would race towards the tv screen to touch it and scream 'REBOOT!' like they do to transform on the show.

How did you digitise your tapes?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm not OP, but I've had good luck with a high quality VHS deck and an elgato video capture.

I want to invest in a Domesday Duplicator this year, which should provide an even better quality.

Honest question here, how does the DD help with VHS tapes? I was under the impression that it samples analog data directly from the read head of a Laserdisc player. Can it be adapted to sample from a magnetic read head for VHS tapes as well?

Perfect, that's all I need. Thank you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was tempted by the elgato but I watched a video that showed it was poor quality.

Perhaps a VHS to DVD recorder is the way to go

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I've been perfectly satisfied using the S-Video on the elgato. If you use composite, not so great.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is the video in question, which seems to indicate the elgato software is to blame for the poor quality.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That’s the one! Although I don’t think they used S-Video so perhaps that’s better. But like you say, the software was to blame with no change of bitrate etc

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Are you confined to using their software or can you use other software if such a thing exists?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately with the "video capture" model specifically, it sounds like you're limited to using their Windows or Mac software only.

It wasn't me. Someone from youtube.

I've never seen a single episode of this but Red from OverlySarcasticProductions has sold me on this being one of the greatest shows of all time

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Oh man, I just realized that Megabyte was voiced by Tony Jay. RIP :(

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Looks like it's on archive.org. I thought I recall it being put up on YouTube by the encore+ project which was digitising a bunch of old Canadian television, distinctly remember Are You Afraid of the Dark? being there as well. But apparently that ended in 2022 and the content was removed...
