I have just upvoted your post

FAQ

What does this mean?

The amount of number on your post has increased by one, and you now have an unfair advantage in the marketplace of ideas.

Why did you do this?

There are several reasons I may deem a post to be worthy of positive number. These include, but are not limited to:

• Rudeness towards libs, • Spreading correct information, • Sarcasm not flagged with a /s.

Am I a mod of c/chapotraphouse now?

No - not yet. But you should keep making posts like this in the future. I will be forced to issue additional upvotes which will give you further advantages.

I can't believe my post deserved an upvote. This must be a dream.

Not a dream, a spectre. It haunts the libs.

How can I get this to happen again in the future?

Accept the upvote and move on. But learn from this victory: your behavior will be tolerated on hexbear.net. I will continue to issue upvotes until communism wins. Remember: posting is a right, not a privilege.

thanks, bardfinn

We have altered the voting scheme. Pray we do not alter it further.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Add downvotes for lib posts only.

this doesn't even make sense. they can downvote us and we can't downvote them. we ratio them anyway.

[–] [email protected] 64 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've never seen downvotes used for anything other than indicating to others who to dogpile on, without it a lot of people simply won't know which side of an argument they should be on

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 years ago (1 children)

spoiler: you can just read the post and decide whether or not to dogpile the-more-you-know

Reading is how the communist tankie propaganda gets you

This isn't about Hexbear. As far as I know Hexbear federates downvotes but does not have downvotes, which puts us at a vote disadvantage. It's Beehaw and some others that reject downvotes from other servers. They send a 504 response to the incoming downvote request from the other server.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Do we need to? I kinda like that we dominate without them.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 years ago (1 children)

only if we start getting lurkers that downvote trans shit again. I may still be misunderstanding how they work on hexbear though

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Fortunately this is only really a problem in /new/ and by the time any trans post reaches /active/ it's going to be too powerful to be affected by it. Also nobody can see the handful of them that might happen so it shouldn't affect people here.

Could be wrong though and in that case some method of turning it off for specific comms might be useful.

ATTN: if you make an acct at lemmy.world, use a VPN or ur privacy is at risk

[–] [email protected] 49 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Easier, practical solution: assume all internet activity (especially social media) is public and act accordingly. Even if you have an anonymous username.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

whether or not it's public, having some deranged libs who think you're a chinese spy but also ddos-ing them, have your IP addresses and any other info you gave their instance, is probably bad

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Switching my VPN to China when I dunk on the libs

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Definitely true, but the lemmy.world mods are trying to dox any commenters they deem to be from hexbear

It's cheating to remove the mechanism for astroturfing & troll campaigning. They're making me post, POST!

[–] [email protected] 56 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I got pig poop balls from a fucking moderator!

Wouldn't removing downvotes put us at a disadvantage when commenting and posting on another instance though? Everyone else can downvote us, but we can't downvote anyone. So any advantage we have by removing downvotes is undone by that.

[–] [email protected] 66 points 2 years ago (2 children)

They think we'd downvote posts from our own instance farquaad-point data-laughing

[–] [email protected] 55 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Proposal: instead of bringing the downvote back, we should get a second upvote option so we can double-upvote comrades

[–] [email protected] 43 points 2 years ago (2 children)

all hexbear votes need to be multiplied by a hundred in order to offset those foreign downvoting hordes

[–] [email protected] 32 points 2 years ago

3/5 rule, HexBear style

Matt Yglesias’ 1 billion Americans proposal but for posting

do instances who log all their users IPs and use discord bots to scrape posts and comments violate their users privacy and safety?

talking abt lemmy.world for those unaware

[–] [email protected] 28 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

does this happen if i utilise a link to lemmy.ml as the instance, which then views a comm that's on lemmy.world?

i'm just trying to keep my liberalism in check

edit: oh wait I misread, I'm a dummy - I thought you were saying that linking to it was dangerous

[–] [email protected] 42 points 2 years ago

Our posts are being subsidized on the global market, giving us an unfair advantage kim

[–] [email protected] 41 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Here's what we do, we allow downvotes but then remove upvotes.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 2 years ago

What if we banned posting?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 years ago

Hold on, I'm into it. No more treats in the form of upbears and an incentive to be as annoying as possible?

I'd visit that instance. Call it Hexbrawl

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 years ago

I can't determine the quality of a post by how many people liked it. I need to see how many people disliked it! It's the only way!!!!

[–] [email protected] 37 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Capitalists: "Life is a soulless competition, and that's a good thing" porky-happy

also libs: "noooo, China is cheating by having a worldview that uses cooperation! That's fucking fascist collectivism" porky-scared

[–] [email protected] 37 points 2 years ago

We have downvotes you just can't be a coward about it downbear

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why are we looking at random Internet points again?
