It brings me back to when I was 8 years old getting into my Grandpa's new Dodge Ram van in the middle of summer and immediately feeling like I'm going to be sick. Ever since I just can't stand that smell.

I'd be interested in a study to see if car salespeople have higher rates of cancer than the general population since I'm assuming they spend more time in new cars than anyone else.

There must be a specifically designed smell which can be applied, if you buy used from a dealer it also has the "new car" smell.
