In this community everyone is welcome to post links and discuss topics related to privacy.
Some Rules
- Posting a link to a website containing tracking isn't great, if contents of the website are behind a paywall maybe copy them into the post
- Don't promote proprietary software
- Try to keep things on topic
- If you have a question, please try searching for previous discussions, maybe it has already been answered
- Reposts are fine, but should have at least a couple of weeks in between so that the post can reach a new audience

You can't clean a sensor so easily. Especially on phones.
I think we'll need some apps to generate artificial and randomized dust and scratches.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the What's App Privacy notice.
It's a patent from 2015, it has nothing to do with it. To detect dust traces in photos facebook would have to be able to access the unencrypted photo; if facebook has access to your unencrypted whatsapp data, lens dust is the last of your concerns
As you cannot know if they are able to decrypt it, I would hedge my bets and just assume they can.
Consider using the native camera apps to click photos, and put a DIY camera cover (https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/ZWF9KqLntp.jpg) to avoid the in-app camera in Facebook apps.

Bur why would I use Facebook?
Well, that was not the point. I suppose there are people who do use WhatsApp, even if not Instagram or Facebook, since WhatsApp is incredibly popular in many countries.
I apply these measures and ones I outline in my guide on it.
I wish there were phones sold without cameras, especially the "self" one. Always freaks me out having that in my face all the time..
The app permissions system is good enough to take care of the camera. If not, the tinfoil and tape is, as I tell. For mic, you can use PilferShush Jammer passive mode.
