@[email protected] I had a cover CD (maybe DVD?) from somewhere that was filled with E3 videos. One was a MGS promo that run for ten minutes or so. I used to watch it obsessively, I thought the game looked amazing and was sad I didn't have a PS1.

I eventually got my own copy when it came to GameCube and that was a very nice port, really well done.

It was such an experience to get to play these games as they released.
Metal gear, Resident Evil, WipEout, Final Fantasy 7, etc...

Thinking about it, I'm been so lucky to have been able to live through so many of these moments that left such an impression.

One regret I have is not getting a Sega Saturn at launch.
The Japanese launch even. I'd love to have been there.

Although I'm not sure if I would have appreciated it as much as I did when I missed out on the first 2 years of the systems life and then had to catch up on all those amazing games, while importing tons of games that we never got and then looking forward to the big new releases as well.
Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force 3...

@[email protected] The Saturn never made an impression on me growing up. I never knew anyone who had one and in my head, it's the poor Playstation. (I know that's not true but it's the memories of friends and magazines of the time.) I have this nugget of information that it was actually a very impressive machine but very hard to program.

As the years go by, I'm more and more convinced that the Saturn is the most underrated console ever created.

It has to some extent received a bit of a reevaluation in the retro community, but as a whole it's still looked at as "the system that killed Sega" or "a complete and utter flop", both of which are nowhere near to the truth.

I still remember importing EGM during those years as I had been since issue 50, and the way they treated the Saturn, when just a few years prior, they couldn't stop themselves from hyping up the 3DO... that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth to this day.

European magazines weren't much better either for the most part, although there were exceptions like CVG, Joypad and as I've discovered this year, GamesMaster.

So many absolute brilliant games on the system that never got their due.
At times a little hard to get into, but with so much hidden depth and just a pure joy to play.
