I'd place "Last Christmas" as a close 2nd, if only for Nick Frost as Saint Nick.

DOCTOR: Oh. My, God! Oh, it's bigger!

RIVER: Well, yes.

  DOCTOR: On the inside…

RIVER: We need to concentrate.

DOCTOR: Than it is…

RIVER: I know where you're going with this, but I need you to calm down.

DOCTOR: On the outside!

RIVER: You've certainly grasped the essentials.

DOCTOR: My entire understanding of physical space has been transformed! Three-dimensional Euclidean geometry has been torn up, thrown in the air and snogged to death! My grasp of the universal constants of physical reality has been changed forever!

DOCTOR: Sorry. I've always wanted to see that done properly.

Such a brilliant scene!

Maybe it’s cliche, but my favorite Christmas special so far is “A Christmas Carol”.

Love the singing.

That's true, it's actually nice singing.

I think my favorite is the one with Santa, mainly because I think it's a good Doctor Who episode

Same here. It's a goddamn perf Christmas pastiche

I'm quite fond of "A Christmas Carol" done with flying sharks.

I adore Nick Frost as Santa Clause deriding the Doctor for not believing in a magical man who always has a big adventure at Christmas. And overall, it's just a fantastic episode of Doctor Who.

But yes, The Husbands of River Song probably tops the list. There's scenes that call for action, drama, comedy and tears, and Alex Kingston delivers it all in spades.

Anything with, about, or referencing River Song moves to the bottom of any favourites or best of list.
