Summary

Western officials report that around 1,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed, with 4,000 total casualties, since joining Russian forces in Ukraine's Kursk region.

North Korea sent 11,000 troops, reportedly from the elite Storm Corps, to support Russia, but the poorly trained and equipped soldiers are suffering heavy losses.

Despite their vulnerabilities, Ukraine's military warns that the influx of North Korean troops poses challenges due to their numbers and Soviet-style tactics.

The deployment reflects North Korea's costly support for Russia amid ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile Russian officials are high fiving each other because that means the Ukrainians had to use enough ammo to kill 1,000 soldiers who aren't Russian.

Heartbreaking honestly. Men who had no hope in life, being thrown to the meatgrinder for no reason.

Hope putin faces justice, now or eventually.

On the plus side, some have been captured and are now prisoners of war. It's a significant quality-of-life improvement.

seems in line with number of wounded reported previously (4000) along with 300 dead, that one seemed low (by south korean intelligence sources)

these 11k are what, week worth of casualties? nothing significant, other than for diplomatic effects

Seems low in the sense that they weren't all killed right away because they have zero combat experience and are going up against hardened veterans.

relatively few of them were on actual frontline, so it tracks
