Between Kagi and Duck Duck Go, I find pretty much everything.
I'm gonna have to give in and pay for Kagi I suppose but as soon as I do pay that's when it turns to shit lol
I've been on my original 100 free searches or whatever it is for like 6 months. I just use it occasionally when DDG can't get the job done, and it often comes through where the other engines can't.
AltaVista? Excite?
SearXNG is pretty nice, you can also configure which engines it uses if you don't like the results. I host a small instance at search.gregtech.eu.
Not anymore, though. Use a different search engine if you want any results worth looking at.
It actually harms Google a little in regards to trademark if it becomes a common verb.
Same thing nearly happened to Xerox, people used Xerox to mean "make a copy" so much they nearly lost the trademark to it
For the same reason I refuse to refer to mastodon or bluesky posts as anything other than tweets.

Well yes, but for a different reason.
They make their money on ads, so if it takes you multiple clicks or searches to get the answer you want, they sell more ads.
