Fediverse vs Disinformation

836 readers
725 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

The post available on LinkedIn (archived) and Facebook (archived) was a response to Musk's controversial gesture at U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration rally, which many observers called a Nazi salute. The post said Low had known Musk for 14 years and that they texted frequently and went to each other's birthdays before they had a falling out. Part of the post reads:

Elon is not a Nazi, per se.

He is something much better, or much worse, depending on how you look at it.

Nazis believed that an entire race was above everyone else.

Elon believes he is above everyone else. He used to think he worked on the most important problems. When I met him, he did not presume to be a technical person — he would be the first to say that he lacked the expertise to understand certain data. That happened later. Now, he acts as if he has all the solutions.

Sounds like the falling out was 2021. Plenty of time to become a Nazi.

Mr. Musk's services as an advisor to NeuroVigil were terminated with cause by Dr. Low on December 17th 2021.

It still fits the bill. Did Hitler truly believe what he said about Jewish people or was he, too, just seeking power and control? IMO, the core of Nazi ideology is absolute fealty to the Leader, which fits right in with how Low describes Musk. Its all just about power and control. The terrors that followed were in ever escalating pursuit of obtaining and maintaining that goal.

My impression has always kinda been that Hitler is one of the fascist true believers, but that most other fascists were largely just saying whatever yielded the most power

I don't disagree though, it still totally fits.

I think most people associate Nazism with master race stuff.
