@Hylactor bit of load issues ATM, but pixelfed.de has insta imports enabled.
PixelFed: A free and ethical photo sharing platform.
Photo sharing. For everyone.
Federated image sharing platform, will it go over Instagram?
I tried signing up, but cannot receive my confirmation email. I know it's unfair to judge, but I'm pretty "online" compared to your average Instagram user. If me joining pixelfed is a multi-day, multifaceted challenge, the platform stands no chance to attract your ordinary user. I cannot emphasize enough how nonnegotiable a seamless migration from IG to pixelfed needs to be.
I don't have an answer for you yet, but do you know/have info on why it was disabled?
Some guesses I have are
- they grew a lot recently and are dealing with the influx of new users, and temporarily disabled it. They might re-enable it later?
- it is in development and restricted to admins only for now? https://pixelfed.social/site/kb/import
- ~~it was disabled due to Meta's recent policy changes, in which case yea you would need to find another instance~~
I'm not familiar with the feature, but I'd like to use it when I eventually move myself
One year ago it was also disabled. Reason 3 is so dumb, importing from instagram means that the person want to stop using instagram or limit it's usage. It can be a turn down from using pixelfed
Good point, the third guess doesn't make sense. I'm going to cross it out
I mean it is still possible, sometimes we make decisions based purely about emotions and forgot what logic
It just says that the feature has been disabled by admins. Presumably due to a huge influx of users. I was just hoping someone knew of an instance that was in a better position to migrate to.
