I'm not even remotely surprised. Anybody who has been following the history of Reddit will know that their senior management are spineless and will change their stance at a whim when it either hurts their public image or it no longer becomes viable from a business perspective.
We're forgetting that this is the same site that allowed jailbait, creepshots, racial hatred, right wing propaganda, rampant misogyny, gore videos, terrorist propaganda (if anyone remembers ISIL) and other disgusting content to proliferate until various scandals forced their hand. Spez in particular is a massive snake that will throw people under the bus and lie through his teeth if it benefits him.
But then again, with a government as volatile as this, maybe you don't want to piss of Trump or Musk...

100% done with reddit, the place is now propaganda central and censorship is out of control.

99% same but there's some subs Lemmy hasn't been able to replace for me yet. like cptsdmemes. in general mental health communities are very lacking on here, if not completely absent
Not to be that guy, but be the change you want to see in the world.
I've had some troubles getting soulslikes communities going on here and have gone from three separate communities at most cracking around 100 monthly users, I think, to more than a 1000. It takes some time and effort, but you'll get there if you're consistent and passionate about it. Plus there might already be existing communities that you can build off of.
Just some unsolicited "advice", I guess
Yeah for normal and safe stuff like favorite book series it's easy. For mental health where you need to moderate suicide topics and disinformation that's whole another challange. Those spaces should be made top down not bottom up. The moderator should really be an experts on that not some random basement dwellers. (My view is enteirely based on r/[email protected])

The censorship on Reddit is insane. And I'm the opposite of a right wing conspiracy theorist nutjob posting wild misinformation. Like, regular posting is censored HARD.
Any platform that starts policing with bots is a platform no one should be on and is doomed to fail.

I think that happened a long time ago
The simple fact that there is an unnecessary amount of control given to a single person over the information and communication you share and consume automatically makes the environment this person controls an unsafe environment for free speech. Yes, there should be moderation, but it should by moderation by the community, not the person on the top of the unnecessary hierarchy. Centralized social media only serves its owners, it exists for no other reason.

Which is ironic because Elon notoriously promoted project veritas literally catfishing his own employees at Twitter, and also brought back accounts like libsoftiktok that existed to target private individuals. But to be fair to Spez, maybe he would ban those things too.
Spez lied about a phone call with one of the third party app devs back in 2023. He's not fair with us, don't be fair with him.
Yup. Dude lied to the 3rd party app dev, affecting his livelihood, and the 3rd party app dev showed up on Reddit with receipts proving it.
Spez is fucking trash.
In November he straight up posted names of federal employees that he decided he didn't like. But now doing the same thing to his little rat fucks has him calling it 'illegal'
