Warning: Elon Musk now has Huffman bending the knee. Whitepeopletwitter, iselondeadyet and loads of other Elon critical subs have been banned or suspended.

Just a warning, Reddit is no longer a safe place for free speech, it is compromised.

Any time Reddit makes a misstep, some fraction of the users will look for alternatives. Can we bring them to the fediverse? Are there coordinated actions we could take?

Anyone have ideas?

Shoutout to Blaze for their continued work promoting Lemmy in r/RedditAlternatives.

He is doing solid work!

Reply promoting the Fediverse literally any time someone complains about mainstream social media?

Never deleted my accounts, just quit using. (Intended to go back to grab saved posts, never did that.) They have engagement history with certain communities, I should probably go sign back into them and keep an eye out in those communities.

Look. I do not know if this helps. But if does help, feel free to share.

Link to the source SVG if anyone wants to edit it.

Seems overtly complex. People are aware that Reddit is thrash, they just don't know where to go.

Feel free if you have any questions"

Fair point. Take 2, now with your short text:

I think that it's good to explore multiple media to convey the same message.

Hope you won't mind me trying my hand on your proposition?

If that was not obvious, I must admit I have no practice of memes and I 'm no designer either. I just liked the idea to encourage users to give Lemmy a try, and I wanted to use flashy colors (I went for Reddit's orange, seemed appropriate to me) :p

You're more than welcome to ignore it, to trash it or to do whatever you want with it. The edited SVG file (made with Inkscape using 'DejaVu Serif' font) is available on my website.

PS I would have liked to propose a simpler version of the 'friendship' image but I would have needed the source image ;)

I don't mind it - I shared the SVG for this reason! And I really like what you did there, the text is shorter but it shows better the point of Lemmy ("owned by its users").

The flashy colours do work better too.

I've shared your take on the idea in the other thread

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That could work, definitely in memes communities.

Feel free to it as its own post on here, or on [email protected] (that name is really confusing)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll share it in the other comm to increase visibility. Thank you for the constructive criticism!

Just saw it, thanks!

You could tell everyone on /r/Cleveland, and /r/ClevelandGuardians to come here.

Yes, I DID really just hijack your attempt to advertise reddit people to come here, in an attempt to advertise to reddit people to come here.

What? You never said it couldn't be specific people on reddit! I miss my Cleveland people.

Well, I'm not sure how well I would be received, especially as I don't have any prior engagement with that sub.

I do think you are correct that focusing efforts on specific people and subreddits is probably the way to go. Assuming the 90-9-1 participation principle, if we can convince the 1% and the 9% switch over, the other 90% will follow.

Oh, Cleveland is pretty accepting about new people. Cleveland is the Lemmy of cities. We have infrastructure to handle being waaaaaaaaay bigger, but 80% of the houses have been abandoned for decades. So if someone new buys a house, and moves in? Ohman, welcome to the neighborhood, buddy! You're a Cleveland sports fan now! Our main exports are beer, chocolate, unwarrented optimism, and crippling heartbreak! By the way, you're a Guardians fan now. Jose Rameriez has the key to the city, and every building in it. Don't worry, he's cool. He's just warding off Tim Anderson from ever stepping foot in this city again...with his FISTS!

See? These jokes would land so much harder if we moved all the Cleveland people here.

eyebrows intensify

You KNOW what he does.....

(I'll stop now.....no I won't.)

You could tell everyone on /r/Cleveland, and /r/ClevelandGuardians to come here.

Have you tried? Would probably help if you are an established member of the community

I'm banned from reddit. Automod just randomly bsnned me after being there for 10 years.

Maybe SEO strategy targeted for the displaced groups, so Elon-critical people who want to discuss him a lot looking it up can get a link here.

Random thought based off of the fact that a hobby drama post I wanted to share with someone was no longer on Reddit because the post was deleted, but someone reposted it in full to [email protected] and search engines would actually show the Lemmy link
