Thank you GOG, F.E.A.R. truly was a great shooter.

pretty much everything monolith did was fantastic. rare studio with wall to wall bangers. of course wb had to put an end to it. fucking shitstains.

Tron 2.0 was my favorite monolith game, next to NOLF probably....

FEAR I think is my favorite, although they have a crazy lineup. I even loved playing gruntz.

shadow of mordor was really good too, although fuck wb for preventing the one innovative part of it from being implemented in any game (other than the sequel), not repurposing it for batman which is such an obvious candidate, and also after finally giving us hope to see it again in the upcoming wonder woman game, shutting down the studio and canceling that too in the process.

seriously if the entirety of wb went down in flames I would celebrate its anniversary. fuck these vultures.

If I recall, a bandai namco patent stopped us from getting mini games during loading screens. Hell, if Nintendo had their way, we wouldn't have any sort of capture mechanic in anything other than pokemon.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's not their fault. I mean fuck them, but it's really the fault of the patent offices that allow such horseshit.

also the best thing about the minigame patent is that it lasted just long enough for loading screens to become too short to justify coding minigames for the sole purpose of filling that time.

Yeah, I forgot about Tron 2.0. Surprisingly good game.

Not Monolith, but remember Prey (2006)? That was another one that surprised me with how good it was. Oh, and Tribes Vengeance. Pretty sure it's still have my discs for all those. I should bust them out and try to get them running with Wine.

Fear made me realise I'm scared of ghosts apparently haha.

I hated Alma she can fuck off

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

spoilerShe doesn't fucks off, but she does fuck someone alright!

Far better game than I expected. Played that for hours.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 weeks ago

Ah, the best game I got for free from work.

My company's giant publishing overlord handled distribution (in our region) for the giant publishing overlord that handled distribution for the giant publishing overlord that owned Monolith. (THQ, Sega, Warner)

Ah, what a shitshow of an industry. Happy days.

Random note: there's a partial SecuRom hardcoded into the multiplayer and cannot be removed in any way, shape or form.

GOG has reviews or topics in the forum about the issue if details are required.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So if anyone has played this on GOG I'd like some clarification about the DRM. Is SecuROM actually removed, or will it install nigh-unremovable malware all over my system? I really want to play this game but I haven't been able to find a straight answer. I know multiplayer is still infected but that's fine, I'm only interested in the campaign.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I dont have a direct answer, but can SecuROM be sandboxed in a VM?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

I actually don't know. Maybe? I've never used a sandbox before so I'd need an expert opinion. That would be a great solution if it works.

Guess we're never getting that remaster of No One Lives Forever, huh...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Well, that kind of has nothing to do with Monolith, and more to do with the fact that nobody knows who owns it. You can still get it here currently, but I've tried to get through it lately and in my opinion a remake (not remaster) would be ideal for this game. It really hasn't aged that well. The gameplay is kinda ass.

Jesus Christ, I thought this was about Monolith Soft and was devastated for a moment.
