Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

I'm just so happy it's a sedan

Why must EVs be horrendously over-styled? Is it a regulatory requirement or something?

It's because the two most important metrics of EVs , range + performance, aren't visible.

And - let's be honest here - those metrics are mostly the same across manufacturers due to battery limitations.

So they have to overcompensate with style to stand out from that other EV that uses the same base platform and the same battery chemistry and the same charging system and etc etc.

Is that unique to EVs, or is that just how modern cars are?

Both.
Obviously, designs change with the times and are always subjective and often polarizing. However, EVs seem to be more consistently disliked than other vehicles for some reason.

We know Hyundai/Kia can make pretty, modern cars. See: Elantra N and Ioniq 5

Trying to show they are the new hotness.

Making the vehicles look like a normal car is one of the things that brought a lot of sales to Tesla. They had a distinct style, but it wasn't completely out of line with the general market.
