(Was unsure to put this under food and cooking, but I consider this US News/Political, sooo)

With a new spin on cooking french fries, Steak 'n Shake is joining the campaign "Make America Healthy Again," made popular by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The company recently made a change and now is cooking shoestring fries in beef tallow instead of vegetable oil. Some Florida locations were the first to start cooking their french fries in beef tallow at the end of January.

But on March 1, the company posted on the social media platform X that all locations nationwide now serve fries cooked in "100% beef tallow... No preservatives, chemicals or additives.">

Fat, sick, and stupid. That's the target demographic.

I hope their stocks tumble through the floor.

McDonald’s stopped using beef tallow in their cooking oil in 1990. This decision was primarily driven by health concerns related to the saturated fat content found in beef tallow.

It's bad when McDonald's makes changes based on health concerns that another business does not.

It's a shame. I used to love Steak N Shake, but they have been declining over the years. When they got rid of the orange freeze, I never went back.

This article is the Gannett megacorp doing advertising for Sardar Biglar, who is an oil and real estate billionaire. 👍

Both my town's Steak & Shake locations closed about five years ago. Never realized their decision process was basically meme-based, but it sure explains a lot.

Are they serious or trying to take the piss, like the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas? 🤨

Actually nevermind... The Heart Attack Grill straight up says it's unhealthy and you could die eating their food (I wanna try that double bypass burger tho).

I'll be honest. The nutritional value of the french fries at a Steak 'n Shake don't matter to me at all when I'm downing a 4000 calorie shake with it and a 1500 calorie burger. If it makes the fries tastier, I think that's all anyone there will care about.

Is this actually a bad thing? I don't know enough about the process. How does beef tallow compare taste-wise to other oils? My first instinct was to think that would actually taste pretty good, but I have no idea.

Beef tallow makes them much tastier but also adds a lot of saturated fat.

Comparably, a good listen about McDs past use of beef tallow in French Fries if you have the time.

Not that their fries were a vegan option befor, I wouldn't know, but they definitely aren't now.
