But that hasn't stopped Conservatives from calling on the new prime minister to publicly disclose his financial holdings
Cooool....coolcoolcool...so then ~pp~ is going to disclose before the election too right? Maybe get the security clearance? No? Weird.
The partisan hypocrisy here is almost comical. Conservatives demanding financial transparency from Carney while their own leader evades basic security clearance requirements is peak political theatre.
But what's actually important is establishing consistent standards of transparency for ALL political leaders. Financial disclosure is a legitimate requirement, as is proper security clearance for those accessing sensitive information. Instead of using these issues as partisan weapons, we should codify clear, universal standards that apply equally regardless of party affiliation.
Transparency matters in a functioning democracy - but it needs to be principled rather than selective. I'd prefer we focus on strengthening democratic institutions rather than these endless cycles of "gotcha" politics that ultimately solve nothing.

The blind trust vs. full disclosure debate perfectly illustrates how our politics has devolved into partisan theatre rather than substantive governance. A properly administered blind trust is an established ethical mechanism, yet we're treating it as suspicious while ignoring the Conservative leader's security clearance issues.
What's more troubling is how these superficial conflicts distract from real democratic deficits. While we argue over financial disclosure formats (or security clearances), our electoral system continues to systematically discard millions of votes. If we're genuinely concerned about government accountability, perhaps we should focus on ensuring our voting system accurately represents citizens instead of manufacturing outrage over procedural matters that both parties engage in when convenient.
