The Steelcase Leap and Herman Miller Aeron are known for being the most durable and high quality. They're extremely expensive new, but you can often find them used on Craigslist for a steal. Alternatively, Crandall Office Furniture sells refurbished Steelcase chairs, though even those can be pretty expensive (around $400 for a Steel case leap V1, and I think $500 for a leap V2 with upgraded seat cushion, which is actually far superior to the original)

For a more affordable new option, I was really impressed with the Colamy Neza chair, which I picked up for my mother a few months ago after many hours of research. It seems to have surprisingly solid build quality, and a particularly good quality seat foam that doesn't flatten out, while not being hard feeling.

I bought a refurbished Leap years ago and have been very happy with it. The arm cushions disintegrated after a few years but aftermarket covers solved that. Rest of the chair has been solid. I’ll probably be using it for another decade or two unless the hydraulics die.

I have a Herman Miller Aeron and I like it a lot.

Steelcase also get a lot of respect in my friend group.

Spend money proportional to the amount of time you spend in it.

I have this one for sale:

It's not great for the regular 9-to-5, but it's pretty handy for after-hours stuff.

No pain no gain. This'd boost my efficiency by 50%.

Even has a pocket on the front of the seat to store a small first aid kit. Genius!

I've had the Herman Miller Embody for 4 years now and I love it. I tried their Mirra 2 and also had a Steelcase at work, but I find the Embody much more comfortable.

Thank you. HM looks nice, but the prices are tough 😅

Yeah it's definitely a splurge, but if you sit at your desk for a long time it's worth it. Check used markets, the chairs are built well and last a long time. I got mine used.

I'll keep an eye open, thanks

Does anyone have experience with HÅG Capisco? I'm looking for something promoting more active sitting. I already have a standing desk which I love but standing for the entire day is too tiring for me and isn't the healthiest option anyway. I think Capisco would be good because it would allow me for some time of sitting but without going into the "shrimp" posture. Also, I think some models can be raised to act kinda like a hoker which would give me a third option in-between full sitting and standing.

It's extremely expensive but I guess not ruining my back is worth it. I'm kinda hesitant though because I don't have any option to try it in person and I'm not sure whether I would be able to return it.

I got a Steelcase Leap v2 a few years ago; they had a massive sale around christmas and new years, dropped to price to about 1K (with most/all of the add ons) new directly from them.

I like it, its reasonably comfortable (i wouldnt conaider it "plush"), but it is a bit on the noisy side for a chair. The recline return force at any strength makes noise, and the hydraulics are/were squeaky out of the box (I've heard lithium grease is recommended).

I kinda want to try a Herman Miller Embody; i have an Aeron at work and the sides of the mesh seat kinda dig into my thighs, and sitting at all cross legged isn't comfortable.

Second hand or refurbished Ahrend 220.

I've had a secret labs titan for a few years and it's pretty good.

I recommend elderly day chairs. They're a bit dull looking but they're solid built, have good wheels and are adjustable. There's also plenty second hand.
