According to updated Eurovision rules, artists aren't allowed to wave any pride flags on stage. While most pride flags have already been banned last year (Nemo, for example, wasn't actually allowed to wave the non-binary flag), this now even includes the six-stripe rainbow flag.
However, before last year, it wasn't something very special to also wave a pride flag or have one in the Greenroom.

According to updated Eurovision rules, artists aren't allowed to wave any ~~pride~~ flags on stage, except their own national flag.

FTFY.

Why would you wave your national flag if not in pride?

That's a good question. In the ESC context it's more for identification, as the artist is participating for (the public broadcaster of) a country, the voting is executed and announced by country and not by the name of the artist.

It used to be that artists are only allowed to wave their own national flag, or the rainbow pride flag, but now that exception is gone

As I've understood, previously, all flags of non-competing countries, e.g. Palestine, were banned on and off stage, for the artists as well as for the audience. The new rules allow the audience to wave any flag that is not forbidden by law, while the artists (for some reason) have been restricted to only use the flag of their participation country, i.e. not even necessarily their own national flag.

Hopefully, the Dutch broadcaster is successful with it's objection against restriction of non-territorial flags, like the different types of pride flags.

Wtf? What bonkers reasoning have they got for this?

They don’t want to upset the bigots.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

but they're Eurovision - surely the bigots have been offended for the past decade already?

They don't want political controversies so the easiest thing is to just ban everything

Lets ban Eurovision then, let them have their own medicine
