The US does use the metric system: an inch is defined as being 2.54 cm. Now it's a metric unit.
Give em 2.54 cm and they'll take 1.62 km.
See, the saying just doesn't work in metric. "Give an inch, and they'll take a foot. Pretty soon you don't have a leg to stand on."

Weed is measured in grams as well. For instance, an eighth is 3.5g. Most drugs in the US are measured in grams, with the exception of those that come from illicit pill houses. There, you're paying by the pill and getting what you get.
In California cannabis is usually sold as ounces or fractions of an ounce.
I've worked in the business previously. Back of house always worked with grams but the customer was usually presented with oz.
Right. So the fraction of an ounce is in grams. We're saying the same thing.
Basically. When I go to the dispensary the flower is listed as eighth, quarter, or ounce. Everything else is in grams.
Ok? You're paying by the gram regardless of the terminology on the display. If you buy a family size bag of chips, it isn't being weighed in "family sizes," it is still sold by US ounces.
As I said in the beginning, this is what I thought of.
In Arizona, cannabis is usually sold as grams because almost everybody buys concentrates now. I still see the occasional blunt but it's not as common as it was before legalization. Everybody moved onto to carts and dabs.
Canadian working for a Canadian company and every measurement in my industry is in SAE units.

And yet those grams were taken from ounces. A lot of people got portions referred to as “dimes”.
"Ounces," often are just close enough to be easily divisible, and the pounds those come from are often calculated from the ounces instead.
You'll typically get a 28 gram ounce, and a 448 gram pound.
A dime sack is referring to the monetary value. The amount per ten sack would vary in time and place, but you bet your ass your dealer was weighing it. It was nice and affordable for an employed teenager to have a bit of fun on a Saturday.
Cocaine is kilos but marijuana is pounds.
