why did you name him stomp

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Definitely looks more like a Pippin to me...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

He's obviously a Proudfoot.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 hours ago

That is a lynx.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 6 hours ago

Call me crazy but I love it. Makes him even more cute!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 7 hours ago

Hot damn! Those paws are comically big. It's like if a cartoon cat with big feet came to life but kept the disproportionate paws. Awesome!

[–] [email protected] 20 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Just imagine the amount of biscuits Stomp could make. Absolute perfection

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago

I'm proud of y'all for not replying "absolute purrfection"

[–] [email protected] 11 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It's not a pathological defect though? I mean does he have health problems because of his paws?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Polydatctyly (extra toes) is not all that uncommon in cats. As far as I know it doesn't lead to any notable negative outcomes. We had a poly cat (named Poly because that's what the shelter called her) who lived a long and healthy life. Earnest Hemmingway famously kept and bred polydactyl cats at his home in Key West, and if you go visit the staff there still take care of their descendants.

Here's our Poly:

What an Oblivion mountain lion actually looked like

[–] [email protected] 18 points 10 hours ago

I got my long haired Highlander from a gal at work whose daughter was allergic. Best cat I’ve ever had.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 11 hours ago

You know what they say about cats with big peets.

They need big cuddles. I'm glad he's got an accomodating home.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 hours ago

I wanna see the boot not too big for the gd feet!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 hours ago

I love stomp

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 hours ago

That cat clearly belongs to Jeff Dabe.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

are we sure this is a cat and not a young lynx?

[–] [email protected] 25 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

It’s a Highlander cat. Natural bobbed tail, curled ears, and polydactyl claws.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Those are very rare. In fact, I'm pretty sure there can be only one.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago

Just go to Zeist. There's plenty there.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

What? It’s been a crossbreed since like 2004? Unless I’m getting whooshed?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

"there can be only one" is a common saying from the Highlander series of movies and TV shows, which refers to an in-universe event where "immortals" (they can be killed by decapitation) feel compelled to "the gathering" and slay each other until the last one receives "the gift".

The series is named "Highlander" because the protagonist in the first movie, Connor MacLeod, is an immortal from the highlands of Scotland and often called "the highlander" by immortals, since he may be living under a different name (because even in fiction paperwork is a bitch).

Outside of the series, "highlander" variants of various games exist which impose a limit of a single instance of a card/token/spell/action where the standard rules have a higher limit or no limit.

At least it's not a young mountain lion...

[–] [email protected] 192 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Stomp: "I'll have a rum . . . . And coke."

Bartender: "why the pause?"

Stomp: "Dunno, I've always had them."

[–] [email protected] 72 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

big pause or it doesn't make sense

Seems like CatGPT still has trouble drawing paws.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 hours ago

There are actual cats that look like this, so probably it's real. It certainly doesn't seem AI generated to me.

GPTs also don't make images. That's not what Transformers do, and GPT means Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It's diffusion models and variational autoencoders that make images.

It’s a Highlander cat. Natural bobbed tail, curled ears, and polydactyl claws.

[–] [email protected] 64 points 20 hours ago

I'm gonna need another photo before I believe this is real... and I just want another.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 18 hours ago

I’d adopt this freak show in a second and give him the best home

[–] [email protected] 33 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I am imagining the cat making exaggerated cartoon footstep sounds as it walks

Sounds like they need to adopt a different GF

We can't see your cat's tail from this one picture. Is it short? Those feet and short tail may make Stomp a Pixie-Bob breed .

[–] DarkSirrush 21 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

Its a highland lynx, which are generally bred to have manx tail.

Fun fact: because of the manx tail, it has a high chance of being incontinent.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 hours ago

Since they’re from the Isle of Man, wouldn’t they be out continent?
