Waitwaitwait A18 and cheap?? That thing sits inside a $ 1000 iPhone. The base model MacBook Air is only $ 200 more.

The iPhone 16e uses A18 and is $599

Those iPhones have OLED screens ($229+), rear camera modules ($129+), and a fairly sophisticated IR dot projection array and sensor for FaceID ($199+), all engineered to fit in the very compact form factor of the phone.

Those prices were derived from the self service store and are surely inflated - they add up to more than the cost of the device - but I think they illustrate the idea that a Macbook with an LCD screen can probably achieve a comparable price point.
